5 Secrets To A Million Clicks On Your Blog Post

There are so many rules to blogging I'm starting to wonder if anyone knows what they're talking about. One supposed blogging guru says you have to do this. Another blogging guru says you have to do that. And there are successful bloggers who don't follow any of the rules that other self-professed blogging gurus say you must do to write a successful blog.


For example, I read blogs like Michael Hyatt and David Risley who seem to follow the conventional method of writing blogs. And then I read the blogs of John Chow and Seth Godin and they definitely don't follow the rules of conventional blogging. In fact, Godin's blogs are more like poems or prose. But all of these bloggers are wildly successful. I believe it all comes down to branding and marketing who you are but that's a different sermon for a different day.


When I first started blogging, I looked at various leading bloggers to see how they blogged. While there is one way of blogging, I will say I saw a common template that most bloggers seem to follow.


In the blogging profession or game (depending on your situation), you're writing for busy people who seem to have limited time these days, I will agree that you definitely have to grab their attention, keep their attention by making your writing interesting and relevant and give them something to make them on to come back. I believe that's the writing style or template of blogging in a nutshell.


Having said that, here are the "secrets" to blogging that will make your blog at least readable:


Attention Grabbing Headline - Since 80 percent of visitors to your blog don't even read the title of your post, you must grab the readers attention with the headline. If you don't, the chances of readers reading your blog is nil. An attention grabbing blog could be a play on words, scare tactics, humor or a question to name a few.


Attention Grabbing Opening Paragraph - This is very clear in the newspaper writing business, every newspaper always tried to get all the important or pertinent information in the first two paragraphs. This is the best opportunity for writers to grab and keep the reader's attention. You can do this with a thought provoking question, a funny anecdote or a controversial opinion· Try to be careful in choosing your words. Very IMPORTANT section! People like things that are interesting, funny or controversial.


Scanable Blog With Bullet Points or Number Ordered List(s) - Because people's attention spans ends within the first 10 seconds these days, I've found myself and I'm sure the vast majority of readers read only the bullet points without reading most of the blog. People want the "nitty gritty," they don't want to read newspaper or magazine articles like we did years ago.You can make your blog scannable with bullet list, ordered list or bold sub headlines.


Image With Caption - I usually don't follow this rule myself but adding a caption to your picture can ensure that the reader interpret the photo the way you intended. However, I do follow this rule. I sometimes include at least one if not two photos in blog. Readers like photos and it helps get traffic with Google. Many times a reader can look at a photo and interpret what you meant to convey a completely different meaning.


End Blog With A Call To Action - When you're writing for people online, your goal is to keep them coming back and reading your blog. There are literally millions if not billions of blogs out there, you have to remind them to come back. That's where a call to action come into place. A call to action can be where you ask the reader to click for more action, buy something or read more information. If you don't end with a call to action, readers will visit your blog one time and never come back.
